| Western Crimea & Area of Sevastopol Heroic pages of the Crimean war 1853-1856 and World War Two are connected to Sevastopol. This also the well known archeological monument - the antique city of Chersonesus attracts visitors. In 988, the Russian prince Vladimir the Grand has been baptized here and then christened the Rus. 15 km to the south from Sevastopol, in Balaclava, the English Navy was during the Crimean war.
